KinetopsiaDespite their material motionlessness, paintings and sculptures are often layered with fields of visual movement, carrying the elements of a scene mid-moment with static velocity. This occurs by either a physical illusion within the eye, a collaboration with the neural visual cortex, or often the imagination of the viewer reflecting on what they have seen. The artwork Kinetopsia employs the visual distortion of moving lenses to decode a layer of time stored in static images, rendering an intersection between the motionful and the motionless. This engine reveals the ambiguity between space and time within a printed image, transliterating static visual pattern into graphic kinetic expression.
